Taree’s 18th Annual Envirofair More than 1,500 people from the Manning and Great Lakes area attended last years' 17th Annual Envirofair. Envirofair is usually held on the Saturday of the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. However, due to extreme weather conditions in NSW, including flooding in the Newcastle and Hunter regions, it was rescheduled. Envirofair Coordinator, Rosie Smith, said, “We had more than 45 stallholders and only a small number were unable to come due to the change in date. The change of venue from the Showgrounds to Taree Park, the good weather on the day, and public interest in the environment resulted in an increase in the number of people attending Envirofair.” One of the highlights of the event was a display by the Manildra Group on ethanol production and a sporty car that predominantly running on ethanol, while the display of local alpacas also proved popular, especially with children. Stalls included solar energy, oxygen farming, and smart water and energy. There were many handmade products, including knitwear, jewellery and preserves, as well as a range of natural therapies, skin care and cleaning products. Local musicians and artists performed throughout the day, including Peggy van Zalm and Filipino dancers. The event also included kids’ creative activities including painting and kite making, as well as junk music workshop. Local community groups were well represented and included the Manning Valley Neighbourhood Services, Men’s Group, the Indian Myna Bird Project, and the local group of the Australian Breastfeeding Association.
